Some of you might be aware that I get a lot of ideas in the bathroom — this is one of them.
I have no idea why or where or what — just that the title Mothers kept spinning around in my head, and the way it sounded in my head was just… sci-fi-ish. Aliens and space and futuristic crap: all sorts of stuff I don’t write about.
I had a tryst with sci-fi before, and it didn’t go too well. It was clumsy and as well thought-out as the series was, I just couldn’t get into writing it, so I ditched it. And my other attempt turned out to be more fantasy/paranormal than sci-fi (but that’s another story we’ll tell at a different time).
Then came all the political issues in the USA (2022 stuff) regarding women’s rights and healthcare, etc. An idea started developing from this… feeding off my obsession for three TV shows that I thought I could mash together and create something cool: American Horror Story, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Westworld.
I put this off for a while, mind you; the ideas started brewing in me in early 2022, but I didn’t have a fully formed story/plot until September/October of 2022. I think that’s a record; anyway, once things started coming in to place, I realized I couldn’t put this off any longer… so I decided to write this for NaNoWriMo 2022.
