Some of you might be aware that I get a lot of ideas in the bathroom — this is one of them.
I have no idea why or where or what — just that the title Mothers kept spinning around in my head, and the way it sounded in my head was just… sci-fi-ish. Aliens and space and futuristic crap: all sorts of stuff I don’t write about.
I had a tryst with sci-fi before, and it didn’t go too well. It was clumsy and as well thought-out as the series was, I just couldn’t get into writing it, so I ditched it. And my other attempt turned out to be more fantasy/paranormal than sci-fi (but that’s another story we’ll tell at a different time).
Then came all the political issues in the USA (2022 stuff) regarding women’s rights and healthcare, etc. An idea started developing from this… feeding off my obsession for three TV shows that I thought I could mash together and create something cool: American Horror Story, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Westworld.
I put this off for a while, mind you; the ideas started brewing in me in early 2022, but I didn’t have a fully formed story/plot until September/October of 2022. I think that’s a record; anyway, once things started coming in to place, I realized I couldn’t put this off any longer… so I decided to write this for NaNoWriMo 2022.
Please mind your trigger warnings for this series, as it contains gore, explicit language, uncomfortable situations, and deals with trauma.

MOTHERS // BOOK ONE – BLURB
AMERICAN HORROR STORY meets THE HANDMAID’S TALE with a bit of WESTWORLD weaved in
Four women, fresh out of a super secret governmental experiment, are dragged back into the laboratory where they lived–to save the world from the specimens they helped produce.
It’s 2050, and the world–in particular the not-so-United States of America–has undergone a lot of changes. A dictator who refuses to relinquish his presidential power reigns over the country, and humans–especially women–see their rights diminished more and more each day. Some are forced to enter special programs to stay safe from men who seek to harm them, and others accept to be part of freaky experimental trials in back-alley labs for a bit of cash to pay the rent.
Four women who participated in one such trial–one actually sanctioned by the US government–are coping with their new lives when a member of said lab comes to find them, to let them know that the experiment they participated in has gone awry… and they are the only ones who can help fix it all.
